Stockton House welcome The Brightsides: Celebrating a remarkable journey across the Atlantic

In a heart-warming celebration of human resilience and generosity, Stockton House recently played host to a remarkable event honouring The Brightsides' inspiring journey. The Brightsides, comprised of Rod Adlington, Anna Williams, Alex Perry, and Guy Minshull, embarked on a monumental voyage, rowing over 3,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean from Lanzarote to Antigua. Their journey was not only a physical feat, but also in aid of supporting two vital causes: Meningitis Now and Get Ahead.

In 2005, Barney Adlington, the son of Brightsides crew member Rod, tragically lost his life to meningitis at the age of three. This devastating loss motivated Rod and his wife Anna to dedicate themselves to supporting meningitis charities, determined to prevent other families from enduring similar pain. Their commitment found resonance with Meningitis Now’s vision of a future where no one in the UK loses their life to meningitis and everyone affected receives the necessary support to rebuild their lives. With a 30-year history, Meningitis Now has invested over £12.7 million in early-stage research, playing a critical role in the induction of five life-saving vaccines. Their vision and mission align perfectly with Rod and Anna’s determination to make a difference.

Get Ahead, founded in the Midlands in 1994 by John Watkinson, one of the UK’s leading ear, nose, and throat surgeons, supports people with head and neck diseases, including cancer, to live better lives. The charity has raised more than £10 million to support people nationwide living with head and neck diseases.

The return event kicked off with a warm welcome and drinks reception in our cozy yet classy breakout area, 'The Stampings.' As guests mingled, they enjoyed a range of refreshments chosen by their team. Throughout the venue, images from The Brightsides' remarkable journey were rolling on the AV screens, allowing everyone to reflect on their extraordinary efforts.

Following the drinks reception, guests stepped out onto the patio area for photo opportunities. The event concluded with an afternoon tea, featuring a Caribbean twist—a fitting tribute to The Brightsides' triumphant return to Antigua. This special touch, provided by our local catering partner, Josie’s Place, captured the essence of celebration.
